Why can I not copy past from a Microsoft Office application such as Word or PowerPoint into a PhysicsOverflow answer box?

Why can I not copy-paste text from Microsoft Office applications, such as Word or PowerPoint, into a PhysicsOverflow answer box?

I tried to do this by CTR+C and CTR+V ...

Or how can I reasonable transfer my text from Word into an answer box?

This is very annoying as I have drafted a review to a submission in PPT and Word (as it is not possible to edit hidden answers invisibly), and now I learn that I can not copy things into an answer box ...

I have added temporary two new paste features provided by CHKEDIT. There are two new buttons at the end of the toolbar, one for formatted and one for unformatted text. If you click there, a new window appears and there you can paste your data using Ctrl V and then hit OK.

I don't know, if all browsers accept this. Please try once and report in comments to this answer.

Yep it seems to work now for comments and as to write answers we have the same editot, I should now be able to write my review this evening :-)

Thanks. Oddly, the fix seems to allow one to directly paste content into the editor, so I'll CSS-hide the buttons.

This is due to some annoying security settings with most major browsers, which prevents anything besides textareas from getting clipboard data. Our editor is not a textarea, though it looks like one, probably because a real textarea cannot allow rich-text editing.

What do I do?

After copying the text, right-click somewhere in the editor. You'll see the option "paste" in the context menu that appears. Click it. A dialog box will open. Paste your text into the dialog box and click "OK". The text will now appear in the box.

@polarkernel Is it possible to introduce a fix so that the dialog box appears even when ctrl+V/cmd+V is entered on the keyboard?

What is that comment at the top? I didn't enter it, and I can't remove it in the edit window. What's gte mso 9?

Unfortunately, the dialog box does not work either :-/

I just opend it, inserted the text by CTR+V, the text appeared in the dialog box correctly, but upon hitting OK, nothing appeard in the comment box ...

It would really be good if @Polarkernel could have a look at it, or this will efficiently prevent me from posting my review :-(

@Dilaton Huh yes, this seems to only work sometimes. I don't know why, only  PolarKernel will be able to answer it.

@dimension10 The comment at the top seems to be entered somehow by you, I have no idea what it is. If you click on 'Source' in the editor, you can see and remove it.

There has been a feature in our editor allowing pasting formatted clipboard data. It has been removed upon our simplification of the editor. I will see this afternoon, how I can reactivate it.
