Request questions from sites on the StackExchange networks that are on-topic here too, to be imported here. Moderators may then import the question.

Addendum

This thread can not only be used to request importing single questions, but PhysicsOverflow members who like some or all of their (for PhysicsOverflow on topic) SE posts imported can say so in a corresponding answer here too. Any other specific list of questions is fine too.

@RonMaimon I agree, but hide, not delete (delete erases from the database itself).

@Dilaton On SE, answers can be ordered by time if one needs to, but not here.

@RonMaimon hiding is ok But concerning references and study material (concerning advanced topics) they newer cluttered any site on SE (not the ones I was interested in) so they will not here either. They were considered legitimate in TP.SE and they are not forbidden on MathOverflow. So please dont introduce this for (advanced) students and people who want to learn about a new topic obstructive SE point of view (in SE they always said you can ask in chat which means forget about it because there are no physics people in chat)

ok, but the point is that it shouldn't come with rep, and it's extremely easy to do, and it only needs to be done once in each topic, so perhaps when reviews are up, it can be done in reviews. You can ask the same question on each topic, I think it's best to make a literature review for each tag on reviews, so that each topic has a set of references people can add to. It's just not effort to find literature.

@Ron Maimon what do you mean exactly by "the post disappeared"?! I hope there's no auto-deletion in Q2A core, like there is on SE.

I meant it moved to a random position in the questions list, it wasn't bumped anymore.

Nah, I think we do not (yet) have to start deleting, this and the community moderation threads can naturally get pretty long, but I conjecture that thethe number of answers can get large but it should stay finite ...

Ok, hid them. If you find this annoying, unhide. I still think book recommendations belongs in meta, it will clutter up the main site. (I unhid them myself, as it caused the question to disappear for lack of activity)

The trigger happy folks at physics SE have closed the following question for some inexplicable reason:

http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/116595/why-application-of-probability-in-qm-is-fundamentally-different-than-application/116609#116609

I hope it can be imported here because the answer is very interesting.

Yep, I will import it. Closing such a question as "unclear what you are asking" after it has obtained a beautifull answer remotely looks like trolling ...

@Dilaton Haha, yeah, it does really appear to be trolling in this situation. I just think that physics SE is a prisoner of their own policies since some of the moderators insist on enforcing the letter of the law rather than to enforce the spirit of the law.

All imported; thanks!

Thanks! Is there a way that we normal user (not like you dimension10) can import questions by ourselves?

Hi @Idear, at present the permission are set, such that only super administrators can import questions...

it you think this should be changed, you could open a meta discussion.

Did you forget to complete your answer?

Sorry. I do not know what happened but the answer is empty. Let me re-edit it.

Changed.

I am adding some physic-related questions/discussions from MathOverflow in which I participated and that are graduate/research level (in my view):

Question on correlation functions and Ising models:
https://mathoverflow.net/questions/93765/correlation-function-for-random-graph-ising-model/94629#94629

This question about algebraic attempts to study thermodynamic limits:
https://mathoverflow.net/questions/138066/an-algebraic-approach-to-the-thermodynamic-limit-n-rightarrow-infty

It seems that there is suddenly something wrong with the Stack Exchange API (which has been buggy since a while) so I will import these after the people at Stack Exchange fix their bugs.

The bug probably only occurs for MO questions (I am still not able to import either of the two above), but I just could import a P.SE question.

@dimension10 @Dilaton @jbvega This bug is fixed now. The issue was not the .net but the https instead of http.

Thanks @Polarkernel, I have now imported them :-)

[UPDATED]

The Physics.SE question

http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/116813/ads-space-boundary-and-geodesics

was imported to PhysicsOverflow as

http://www.physicsoverflow.org/18515/ads-space-boundary-and-geodesics

but both the question and the answer(s) were later considerably updated in Physics.SE. I don't know what would be PhysicsOverflow's policy in this case - would it be the case to update the import as well, or not?

Oh yes, it has indeed obtained great extensions ...
So I have simply reimported it for now.

Maybe we should think about how to best keep imported questions synchronized to important updates by means of a meta question.

I have one question from my physics.se account which I would like to have imported to this site if possible.

http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/118659/homogeneity-of-space/118778#118778

Thank you for your time.

I would be interested to see an answer to the following question:

http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/128782/what-is-the-idea-behind-counting-the-number-of-excited-states-and-the-representa

(but I'm not sure if it is considered high-level enough).

I suggest to import this post of mine that yields a good explanation on the validity of the rotating wave approximation in quantum optics. Thanks.

Welcome to PhysicsOverflow !

It seems we already have a version of this question (and its answers) here, because the whole content of TP.SE has been imported. Which version do you prefer, or should I merge them?

Hi Dilaton, I see that already existed as a user on PO. Now, we have a problem as I registered again as JonLester. I think it would be better to merge users or remove one of them. Sorry but I become aware of PO a few minutes ago due to a post about me here. Thanks a lot beforehand.

This is no problem, I can merge the old imported account into the newly created one, such that you also have access to your imported posts and you will have rep. Your paper I will import shortly too as suggested, if you agree (?).

Ok, I have now reimported the question (it and the answer are higher voted) and merged Jon into JonLester.

@Dilaton Thank you very much. You have been really helpful.

For my paper, you can import it without problem. It is the reason for importing that is somewhat bothering me. :)
