Cave signs

Modern man has only been aware that Stone Age people created works of art in their caves since the beginning of the 20th century. For example, the cave art discovered in 1880 in the Spanish cave of Altamira was not initially recognised as Stone Age art. Only gradually did the discovery of other sites lead to scientific acceptance - do my homework . In 1940, children playing near the village of Montignac (Dordogne) discovered an entrance to the cave of Lascaux, which contains images of numerous horses, cattle, bison, cats and ibexes in a total extension of over 100 metres. This cave can no longer be visited today for its own protection. Instead, visitors are taken to a faithful copy of the cave.

Cave art is the oldest evidence of man's use of pigments and binders. It originated in the Stone Age with the end of the Ice Age - take my online class , a climatic period when large parts of Europe were still covered by glaciers. Today, the entrance to the Cosquer Cave in southern France is below sea level. This proves that a lot of ice melted with the warming of the climate and the rise in sea level.

Outdoors, the cave paintings discovered would have been exposed to weathering. However, shielded in the depths of many caves, protected from damaging light influences and at constant temperatures, quite a few rock paintings have been able to survive in very good condition to this day.

Most of the sites in Europe are in France (150 sites), followed by Spain (128) and Italy (21). There are also known finds from Africa and the other continents. The petroglyphs are mostly about animals and people - https://domyhomework.club/history-homework/ , with horses and bison making up the bulk. Signs and indeterminate lines complete the variety of rock art, which is also called "art of a hunting culture".
