  We have ArXiV trackbacks!

Hi all,

ArXiV trackbacks have been working since a while, and are accepted by the ArXiV! You can see an example trackback working e.g. here.

This is of course very important for the reviews section, as this helps to get more eyeballs to the reviews section, as well as strengthens the links between ArXiV and PhysicsOverflow, to make PhysicsOverflow feel more like a "native" discussion forum for the ArXiV. Keep in mind that:

  • All posts are parsed after posting for arXiv links and the trackbacks are immediately sent, if valid. Because the question titles are sent with the trackback, it is important that the titles are correct, if arXiv links exist in the post.
  • Whenever possible, use arXiv references for papers, best done as link to arXiv abstract pages. These trackbacks are also some advertisement for PO.

Special thanks to @PiotrMigdal for providing the source code of python scripts used on TP.SE, as well as helping polarkernel with the Regex.

This is an amazing feature. Thanks @dimension10, @PiotrMigdal, and of course @polarkernel. I used to bug you guys about having an "arxiv view", so that PO looks initially like an arxiv mirror, but the trackbacks on arxiv are even better, as they are native to arxiv, so suggestion retracted. Really, thanks for doing more than what is possible.
