What is known about the theories with 16 supercharges? Are any of them exactly solvable?

Secondly I was hoping to work on the 1+1 theory obtained by the compactification of N=1 10D SYM on T^8. With the hope that I can later study theories with 16 supercharges in 2+1 dimensions, and so on. And perhaps later study their gravity duals.

Is this a good long term Phd. Project?
