Can the character limit on usernames be increased?

Some users from SE, such as WetSavannaAnimal aka Rod Vance and Eduardo Guerras Valera have usernames longer than 20 characters. This is not allowed on Q2A. Therefore, their usernames get shortened to WetSavannaAnimal aka and Eduardo Guerras Vale. This, results in the horrible bug we already know of. 

This is of course disastrous. We could solve this by correcting all their posts, but we would have to do so for each new imported post, and these two users are both very important.

So could the character limit be increased to say, 50 or 40 characters? Then I can rename them to their full names, and correct all their posts and assign it to them.

 I have altered the database and qa-db-maxima.php to usernames of up to 50 characters. So the long names should work now.
