I have setup and configured a new (and hopefully more reliable) mail server for PhysicsOverflow. Should you still encounter issues with email notifications, please ping me or comment this announcement.

Continuously boring our ISP seems to produce some effect. I assume we got a new mailserver for PhysicsOverflow, although they don't tell it to me. Since more than a week I haven't seen any more error messages from our mailer. Therefore I assume that this issue is solved.

Weren't the server errors in sending private messages related to this? I just saw a server error again:

Sure these messages are related. Sorry, the service will not work correctly for the next few hours, I have to debug it and find the reason on the running server. On my local server, everything worked fine.
@polarkernel Ok, thanks. By the way, there's some random text at the top of your comment for some reason.
@dimension10 Don't let me translate this to clear text, it was self censoring. :)
There seems still something be wrong with the SMTP connection (it is even not possible to connect to the mail server from the site, while on my local server, this works fine). I assume, our ISP has blocked something,so I have to continue the thread with the support. Actually, we are back to the previous solution.
