I fail to see how that's an equation meant to be "solved".

thank you. actually I'm struggling with the solution procedure of that equation. I want to check the validity of this equation for Reissner-Nordstrom metric.
I agree with @Dimension10. Also, you should give some more context about the situation and write the equation (1) down in the question itself to make it clearer what you are asking.
