It is shown e.g. in https://arxiv.org/abs/hep-th/9912072, that for a quantum field theory on noncommutative spacetime $[x^\mu,x^\nu]=\theta^{\mu\nu}$ in the limit $\theta\to\infty$, "the theory appears to be stringy." What I find particularly interesting is that this "stringy" limit may be motivated from low(er) energy arguments leading to NC spacetimes (c.f. https://arxiv.org/abs/hep-th/0303037)
Is anything more known about this string theory? References will be appreciated, but an explanation is fine as well.
