@Dilaton is that possible? That would be a very good idea,  also see this: http://physicsoverflow.org/trollsouthere14/index.php?qa=4545&qa_1=how-many-points-should-one-lose-for-being-downvoted&show=4598#c4598 If so is possible, can't the   "Refreeing" rep settings be changed too, such that downvotes cost less on that section?

Yes, the mixing between "meta" rep and "main page rep" is a general problem. The cleanest solution would be to set the reputation gain per upvote in the whole meta category to 0 ...

I think the meta.TP.SE questions are unnecessary here, and harmful, since they increase the reputation of people like Grace Note, etc.       who are SO developers, with nothing to do with physics. At least it should be anonymised or something.
