  Can we put "Search User" on the "Users" page?

It looks creepy having a solitary "Search User" link on a navigation bar all to itself on the main page as a non-login user.

Is it possible to instead place it on the Users page, or to have a search user plug-in there?

Yes I agree that it looks creepy ... To me it seems there is enough space in the gray lower part of the top menu bar, so maybe it could be put there between the Users and Reviews links ?

@Dilaton I think It'll  make the navigation bar look increasingly cluttered and disorganized. Why can't we just move it to the users page?

By User page you mean this http://www.physicsoverflow.org/users ? There it would be good.

@Dilaton yes there, and to remove most of the other navigation buttons except "search user". If they want to navigate, they can press the back button on their browser or Physics Overflow logo. I would prefer just a "main page" link alongside "search user".

Nope, this is very useful to a non-logged-in user (for regaining their account), and this is the most prominent location it can be placed.

Oh yes, I forgot that it really has to be at a prominent location for these reasons ...

Honestly, I never even noticed "Search User" when I was looking to regain my account. The fact that SE users already have unclaimed accounts on this site is not something most new users will realise, so it just won't occur to them to search for their own SE user name. In my case I just clicked on "Regain SE account" in the right-hand panel. ("Regain" sounds weird if you don't know the account names have already imported, but it gives a bit more of a hint that SE users might want to click on it.) Given that, I don't think the benefit in having "search users" in such a prominent position is all that great.

(On a similar note, though not related to this question: when I wanted to import my questions I ignored the link "import votes", because I thought "I don't want to import *votes*, I want to import *questions*." I realise that it means "vote for imports", but that's not obvious unless you've already been to that page. So I think that link should say something else, like "import questions" or "import from SE" instead.)

@Nathaniel Fixed the import button.

"Users" is on the navigation bar, so it's pretty obvious someone will click on that if they want to locate their user account, while assuming there's some sort of search facility on that page.

It's not. I wouldn't be interested to see who is participating on the site, I will be interested to see if am participating on the site. There is no search facility on SE, so few SE users would expect there to be one here. You know this.

@dimension10 I know this: on PSE there's a "search user" under "users" on the main page over there.

@physicsnewbie Oh ok sorry, never noticed that. But then again, I presume that there are other users like me who would never notice the search user bar because of it being hidden inside the users page.

I have done this using the Widget Anywhere plugin that we have just recently installed, but I am keeping the link in the admin-bar.
