The new category system has been installed

I have installed the new category system of PhysicsOverflow. It is dedicated mainly for a hierarchical storage of submissions in the review section. If you are interested in technical details, I have published some details on our blog. It was a very large change, it was difficult to test all use-cases and therefore, there may still be minor bugs. If you observe any irregularities, please report them as answers to this question.

This was heroic work, one cannot thank you enough, +1 is a meager reward for such effort. I have one question--- does the nested set model mean that every new question requires an update to the whole database, or simply that adding a new category requires this? I can see that adding a new category would be a rare event, but I hope that inserting a question is no slower now than in the past.

Inserting a question will even be faster than before, because only the category-ID has to be stored to the post. Before, the whole path to the root (up to four entries) had to be computed and stored. Inserting a category or moving a category to a new parent requires more computation, however this will be required much less frequent than posting. Additionally, I assume it will almost not perceptible until we have 5000+ categories.

For the sake of getting you some recognition for this, extensions, and bugfixes, perhaps you should add your code as a formal branch of the Q2A GitHub. I assume all sites who use Q2A will eventually switch to this, because it is simply better.

It works amazingly well, thanks! So creating a new category works the same way, right?

@dimension10 Yes, adding categories or modifying them by superadmins works very similar as before, just with the new user interface. Don't be afraid to get a long computation time, with the actual number of categories, modifications require some microseconds.

It looks to me that the icons for categories with sub-directories have been given a greenish tone for emphasis.

I think this is unnecessary since the prefixed blue triangles emphasize this already, and spoils a little the minimalistic design of the site.

Hm, I rather like how it looks, the green for the choosen category looks nice to me. But different people like different styles etc of course.
