Request questions from sites on the StackExchange networks that are on-topic here too, to be imported here. Moderators may then import the question.

Addendum

This thread can not only be used to request importing single questions, but PhysicsOverflow members who like some or all of their (for PhysicsOverflow on topic) SE posts imported can say so in a corresponding answer here too. Any other specific list of questions is fine too.

@RonMaimon I agree, but hide, not delete (delete erases from the database itself).

@Dilaton On SE, answers can be ordered by time if one needs to, but not here.

@RonMaimon hiding is ok But concerning references and study material (concerning advanced topics) they newer cluttered any site on SE (not the ones I was interested in) so they will not here either. They were considered legitimate in TP.SE and they are not forbidden on MathOverflow. So please dont introduce this for (advanced) students and people who want to learn about a new topic obstructive SE point of view (in SE they always said you can ask in chat which means forget about it because there are no physics people in chat)

ok, but the point is that it shouldn't come with rep, and it's extremely easy to do, and it only needs to be done once in each topic, so perhaps when reviews are up, it can be done in reviews. You can ask the same question on each topic, I think it's best to make a literature review for each tag on reviews, so that each topic has a set of references people can add to. It's just not effort to find literature.

@Ron Maimon what do you mean exactly by "the post disappeared"?! I hope there's no auto-deletion in Q2A core, like there is on SE.

I meant it moved to a random position in the questions list, it wasn't bumped anymore.

Nah, I think we do not (yet) have to start deleting, this and the community moderation threads can naturally get pretty long, but I conjecture that thethe number of answers can get large but it should stay finite ...

Ok, hid them. If you find this annoying, unhide. I still think book recommendations belongs in meta, it will clutter up the main site. (I unhid them myself, as it caused the question to disappear for lack of activity)

Hi Prathush,

Do you mean just David Bar Moshe s answer?

To me it seems the other post of John Duffield does not meet the standards of PO and does not even try to answer your question, as he even admits in the first sentence. It seems to randomly glue together some to the question more or less relveant information the author has found at different places in the internet in an incoherent meaningless way, trying to appeal to a lay audience...

@dilaton Agreed.

Done ...

Hi Arnold,

they are here and here now. Not sure if I should bump imported questions too, if they dont automatically appear on the front page (?) ...

@Dilaton: in low tides times like at present it is better to bump at least those imported questions without an answer.

Please import

http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/167027/how-to-formulate-variational-principles-lagrangian-hamiltonian-for-nonlinear

http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/147341/lagrangian-and-hamiltonian-eom-with-dissipative-force

also the following (they are old enough that I'd have thought they were already imported by default, but I couldn't find them!)

   http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/20188/
Is there a valid Lagrangian formulation for all classical systems?

  http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/4749/
Is there any physics that cannot be expressed in terms of Lagrange equations?

The questions are now here, here, here, and here.

There is no default procedure or scheme of importing SE questions, but it would be good if different people could help with screening for importable stuff ...

@dilaton: I had thought the last two questions originated from SE theoretical physics, but apparently they were in SE physics from the start.

Screening SE physics systematically is a huge task. But I always check when i am surfing there anyway whether threads fit our scope, and then post them here.

Could you import the following question from physics.stackexchange?

Why scale relativity is not mainstream physics?

answered Aug 4, 2015 by Sébastien Palcoux (110 points) [ revision history ]

@mods and others, are there objections against importing this question (I am a bit hesitant about "unilaterally" importing it)?

Apart from John Duffield's usual bad cranky post hanging there (which should probably not get imported), the other answers look rather reasonable to me and discuss the issue by using physics arguments as it should be done and the OP likes it to see.

In general it shows good scientific practice to soberly discuss the problems with fringe proposals. However the danger always is that public such discussion  gets derailed. It would be best if somebody would first very clearly identify what precisely the proposal under discussion actually says, so that commenters will hopefully feel encouraged to concentrate on concrete technical points.

Maybe it would already help to change the title such that it says "What are the technical obstructions that prevent scale relativity from being a viable theory of quantum-gravity?" or something along these lines?

I propose to import it to chat.

Ok, I have imported it to Chat such that we have it here on PO.

Maybe, after appropriate edits as for example suggested by Urs, it can be transferred to Q&A later (?).

@dilaton: I've replaced the title with your suggestion.
